  • Improving the Speed of your Website

How Fast Your Wix Website is? For many years, the loading speed of websites on Wix generated unfavourable reviews and gave people reason to opt for any other solution. Increasing the speed of websites has since become a top priority for the Wix platform. We consistently follow the updates and advances on this issue and take part in beta testing as well as helping the programming team to implement and examine various algorithms. (By the way, there is a team of close to 150 people working in the Wix department that specialises in website productivity!) Over the past few years, we have seen significant progress in the loading speed issues, but due to the specificity of the operating algorithms used by external website speed assessment tools, we couldn’t prove it! :). The actual speed could only be estimated by Wix metrics. The challenge for the programmers was to achieve Wix compatibility with external evaluation metrics (PageSpeed Insights by Google, GTMetrix, etc.), so that the website owners received accurate speed monitoring results. We regularly test websites for our customers and we have finally seen the results of all the recent platform updates! External assessment tools have begun to determine the actual loading speed, reflecting the real experience of site visitors. The speed optimisation work is certainly not over, though – we envision speed indicators even higher and website metrics scores in the “green” (measured as “good”, or better). What’s more, Wix has added metrics from Google directly to the dashboard (currently in beta). In the near future, you’ll just have to look at this section in your site’s control panel to make sure your site is performing well. According to experts, these long-anticipated “page experience” ratings from Google will affect the growth of Wix website numbers. Stock market pundits predict corresponding growth in the asset value of the company. If you’re going to develop or are working with a website on Wix, you should subscribe to our Instagram page: We regularly share tips on developing and running effective websites, as well as reviews of new products and platform features. All with a curious and creative touch :)

  • Wix Partner Program

Wix Partners or Wix Specialists is a program for freelancers and agencies who use Wix and Editor X to develop websites. Any web designer can join the program by developing and launching 4 websites. Subsequently, they earn 100 points for each (premium subscription) client website published. By developing more websites on Wix and Editor X, specialists will be upgraded to the next level. The highest level that can be achieved is “Legend”. We had already developed 400 websites by the time the partnership program was launched, which enabled us to obtain Legend status automatically. Based on the number of active premium plan websites in their portfolio, specialists gain access to a variety of platform benefits, including the right to share in profits from purchases of Wix premium plans. Wix Marketplace Having collected 2000 points, specialists can join Wix Marketplace, which enables them to get work from Wix users for website creation, development and promotion. The system captures and processes job requests directly through Wix accounts, providing lead traffic and minimising time prospecting for clients. WIX PRO’s path Back in 2012 we switched from Wordpress to Wix and, based in Australia, found ourselves the first company in the Russian market. At that time, the name “Wix” raised nothing but a smirk, but we fully believed in the platform’s capabilities. Joining Wix Marketplace (previously known as Wix Pro) provided us with smooth customer inflow from all over the world, as well as hundreds of great websites in our portfolio, acknowledgement by the Wix designers global community and friends from every continent. We should point out that officially we don’t belong to Wix.com but nevertheless we are treated with due recognition, and as partners we receive individual support along with the rest of the benefits the company provides. We give Wix as good as we get – helping to test beta software, providing feedback on new features, reporting bugs and errors, taking part in UX tests, and so on. Being at the Legend level in the Wix hierarchy, our agency has access to a number of privileges: Personal account manager (for all kinds of issues) Expanded access to Wix technical support services (priority support) Access to beta software Priority access to platform updates Profit sharing Free webinars and workshops from the top specialists Annual global events Online community The bottom line is that we love Wix, and Wix loves us back. :) What a potential Marketplace customer needs to know Wix Marketplace enables customers all over the world to hire specialists of any experience level, with any skill set, at any price, who will help to develop, optimise or promote their websites. That’s how it works, but you need to keep in mind that shortlisting to participate in a project is based only on quantitative criteria, not qualitative. This can lead to many cheap, low-quality websites. Be aware and choose your Wix designer/agency carefully. There are designer portfolios and customer reviews on Wix Marketplace to help you. You probably won’t be tricked, but you never know! If you’re going to develop or are working with a website on Wix, you should subscribe to our Instagram page We regularly share tips on developing and running effective websites, as well as reviews of new products and platform features. All with a curious and creative touch :)

  • Website Launch Checklist

Did you know that some settings on your Wix website are available only with the premium plan, so you have to go live to be able to configure them? That's probably why they often remain untouched. They aren’t crucial and you can easily go without them (many do) – but these are the very settings which make your website look professional, completing the picture. To help you make sure that your site is really ready to welcome new users, I’ve gathered a checklist of the least obvious settings! 1. Favicon The “favicon” (from “FAVouriteICON”) is a small image displayed next to the name of a website in browser title bars or bookmark lists. The standard size for a favicon is 16 x 16 pixels – it’s a tiny but very important element that plays a big role in usability, identification and branding. Despite the accepted standard size, we recommend publishing a larger image (minimum 48 x 48 pixels). You don't need it to be this exact resolution, but the image must be a square shape. The preferred file format for the favicon is PNG, as it supports a transparent background and will be displayed correctly by almost all browsers. If your logo doesn't have any separate graphic detail (which is a perfect option for a favicon), you need to come up with it. Using a full logo or a detailed image is not recommended, as it won't be legible at a small size. We always create a favicon in our branding packages (this is responsive logo design). You can upload a favicon to your Wix website in the dashboard settings. 2. Social media sharing You’ve probably noticed that a link to a website on social media pulls up a title, description and image. The title and description usually come from the SEO settings of the web page, but what about the image? If you haven't set up an image for social sharing, we recommend you do so. Otherwise links will be shown with a random image pulled from your page, or your logo. When creating websites for our clients, we usually design the banner specifically for sharing, because we care how links look on social networking platforms. The banner includes a thematic picture or branded illustration, the logo, and the main message or description of your company/service. A link with this custom-made image without doubt increases the chance that users will follow it and land on the site. In the general settings of your Wix website, you can upload an image like this. You can also go further and customise the look for each page of your website by uploading individual images in their SEO settings. 3. Error page 404 The 404 (Page Not Found) error is not an actual page, but it’s usually seen if a page on a site has been deleted or its URL has changed. In rare cases it can be displayed due to a server malfunction. It’s not great for a user to land on a 404 page, but the good news is that Wix allows you to customise it. The 404 page should have a link to the home page of the site and an explanation that the page requested is not available. The design of the page is at your discretion. If you don’t configure the page, the user will see the standard 404 page supplied by Wix and most likely leave the site. We pay special attention to the design of 404 pages so that any lost users arrive at the branded error page and understand where they are, why, and how to find the way home. (Read more about setting up 404 pages and our examples of non-existent pages in our article.) 4. Communication This is another important block in a website’s settings. You must check and set all the notification parameters (channels, e-mail, chat, integration with social networks) for user interaction with the site. Specify which e-mail and notifications you want to receive and test all buttons to send requests from your website. 5. Cookies and site privacy policy In the additional basic settings block (“Settings” > “Advanced”), Wix provides tools to comply with data protection regulations. Always be aware of these regulations in your area and update the privacy policy on your site whenever changes are made. This demonstrates transparency of actions and increases the level of trust from site visitors. 6. Accessibility (for special needs) Wix has all the necessary tools to customise websites for people with disabilities. By law, providers in some industries are required to have a version of their website for people with special needs. You can adapt your site for users with disabilities in the settings in the Wix editor. (By the way, this should actually be taken care of when designing your website. If it was created without taking colour contrast or content structure into account, you will basically need to re-do everything.) Now your Wix website is ready to launch! (But it’s never too late to check and update these settings on your existing site. :)

  • MVP in Business and Design

The “minimum viable product” (MVP) is a version of a product/service that has a set of features sufficient for its presentation to and testing by its first users. It is a complete, usable product that fulfils its stated function. For example, publishing a beta version of your website allows you to study user behaviour and gives you ideas about further additions to improve user experience. The MVP approach is useful for any business because it allows you to: save time and money on market and target audience analysis deliver a product faster and generate profits before its final development is completed get feedback from the target audience to finalise the product. Surprisingly, we see many cases in which a client wants "everything at once" when they’ve only just started bringing a brand into the digital world. This can lead to a dead-end. Business owners get bogged down in a jumble of details that don’t have any impact on the end result, instead of focusing on the essence – the maximum benefit for the product with the minimum effort on their part. At the beginning, the focus should be on determining what will allow you to implement the main function of the product. The product can be launched without every possible variety of functions originally conceived by the team. Remember, trying to create something "perfectly perfect" can be very expensive for your business. You may lose time and profits when you could be making money and getting real user feedback to improve your offering. How do we utilise MVP in our design approach? 1. We concentrate on finding the simplest solutions, taking into account the needs of the target audience (keep it simple) Wix is the ideal platform for creating digital products with minimal development costs and maximum functionality. Using various ready-made solutions from Wix, you can present and test products of any complexity. 2. We focus on the main benefit of the product for users We don't like to overload sites with features and value propositions. Research shows that the maximum number of features per product should be no more than seven (3-4 is even better). 3. We always find the most vivid visual and verbal ways of communicating product values Millennials and Gen Z make their choices based on design – it also plays a huge role in the MVP philosophy. (This covers both the user experience and the general concept of the brand's visual strategy.) While the MVP approach initially arose in IT, it also works well in the sales of goods/services and other areas of business. It can help you to save money, improve your product, build clientele and attract investors.

  • Editor X

Wix recently introduced a new platform for creating websites – Editor X. Its stand-out feature is its ability to create fully responsive website design, which is what all Wix designers have been looking forward to for a long time. What is responsive web design? Briefly, responsive web design (RWD) means that a website can adapt to any screen size and deliver the best experience to users, whether they’re on their desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Responsive web design works through Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), using various settings to display different style properties depending on the screen size, orientation, resolution and other characteristics of the user’s device. Whether viewed on a 27-inch iMac or from the screen of a mobile phone, the website is configured for an optimal viewing experience. With the responsive web design approach, all images, fonts, and other HTML elements are scaled appropriately, maximising whatever screen size the user has (while so-called “adaptive” design stays the same for every single device). Wix vs. Editor X With the standard Wix platform, we only have two breakpoint options: desktop and mobile. Only individual elements of the editor are responsive and their width is dynamically adjusted to the size of the device. With Editor X, the website grid and any site elements are proportionally increased or decreased depending on the height and width of the screen, according to predefined values. Now, when you create a website with Wix, you need to choose which editor you want to use. Though both regular Wix and Editor X are drag-and-drop platforms, Editor X is not as easy to use. A designer requires a lot of experience with the platform and a good knowledge of UX and mathematics (yes, a pixel-perfect site requires pixel-perfect calculations). The cost of annual premium plans for Editor X is much higher, but the result is definitely worth it. In addition to responsiveness, Editor X boasts other special effects and interactive features that cannot be implemented in the standard Wix. We’ve tried them all! 🏆👍 I was the lucky Wix designer who was able to receive personal training from the Editor X developers and designers. As an agency, we didn’t start creating sites using the new editor immediately, because the platform had some bugs (as in any new product) and also lacked some functionality. Now that I’m confident in the platform and myself, we are ready to create websites on a completely new level! Check out our first project in the new Editor, for a premium food product: www.thegranola.com.au The website was nominated for the "Site of the day" by Awwwards. (If you want to learn how to build websites with Editor X yourself, you can do it at the Editor X Academy). Despite the fact that both editors have completely different logic behind them, they also have a lot in common: applications, plugins, CRM and all the other products for online business management. The Editor X interface itself is also almost the same as regular Wix. The most important thing is that both editors are united by their continuous improvement: Editor X, like Wix, is updated daily and supplemented with new applications and features.

  • Mobile App Development with Wix

Wix is making mobile app development easier and more affordable than ever: Branded App by Wix provides users with a solution to build a tailor-made app without writing a single line of code. Statistically, store owners that release their own mobile app see an average increase of 162% in transactions per site. Fitness businesses see an average increase of 510% in services booked via mobile. That's why Wix's decision to create its own mobile app builder is so timely. Now we have the freedom to design native mobile apps for our clients. Tools and features from your existing Wix site can be integrated automatically into the app setup. More importantly, activity from both the app and the site are synced to the Wix dashboard. Branded App by Wix provides advanced design capabilities and the platform will continue to release new features to offer extended customisation and navigation. Creation of a branded app is available to Wix users at an additional cost, while customers of the sites can download the app free of charge from the App Store and Google Play.

  • How Long Does It Take to Build a Website?

After experiencing the Wix editor's ease firsthand, we can all agree that its ability to help us effectively create websites effortlessly is one reason we love the platform. That goes without saying that every project is different, and some can take weeks, if not months, to complete due to their complexity. Some of the most frequently asked questions I am asked revolve around project timelines. How long does it take to build a website? What are some of the reasons behind website launch delays? Creating websites in one day is not something I would recommend, although we have the cases when we were able to complete landing page in a day and a classic website in 2-3 days. Usually, I prepare our clients for at least 1 month of standard website development (up to 15 pages): a week to study the client's business in detail, building out the main page and sitemap structure 2-3 weeks to visualize it, set up all required features, and review it with client. Once we have an approval, we test all links/buttons and features to finalize the launch date. If it were up to us, most of the projects would meet this timeline, but this is not always the case. To be more precise, it is never the case 🙃. What are the main reasons behind this? 1. Website complexity The timeline for a web development project depends entirely on its complexity. Although at times, it's hard to pinpoint which part may be missing. We don't want the situations when in the middle of web designing we realize that a client wanted an "Amazon-like" website and not just a store :). Wix features can facilitate and accelerate the implementation of quite complex functionality. When building your site, we choose apps and products that provide solutions and are easy to manage because you will need to manage it :) and you want to do this without hassles (that's why you chose Wix after all). We don't need to reinvent the wheel thanks to the ready niche solutions (Wix Store, Wix Events, Bookings, Restaurants, etc.). But in some cases, standard solutions are not enough. Full customization is needed, which significantly increases the time to work on a project. We always guide our clients to choose the right path for website development. 2. Website content is not ready We can count on both hands the number of projects delivered to us where the website's content was well prepared and structured. I've always wanted to hug those clients 🤣. It speeds up the site creation process dramatically. But let's face it, this rarely happens, especially when we work with small businesses who have a very vague understanding of what content should go on their homepage or what pages they need. It's our job to help guide them; otherwise, we'll be waiting a long time for the right content we need. We always start with an interview. These Q&A sessions help us see the bigger picture. We need to know everything about your products, services, market, industry, competitors, concepts, achievements, clients, testimonials, etc. We keep asking questions until the picture is clear. All your responses will be the drafts for final texts. We then analyse and structure the received information to come up with clear architecture of your website. 3. The team of decision-makers When working with a business where a corporate system regulates individual decisions or needs to provide their approval, it is next to impossible to speed up a project's timeline. What can be just as bad, if not worse, is a small team that requires everyone's input before being approved😣. This process is a time consuming and bad practice unless the whole team represents a potential audience of the future website. A dedicated person must coordinate the site. Ideally, a marketing specialist, but often it is done directly by the business owner. A situation where everyone gradually requests their adjustments is unacceptable Client's level of anxiety It happens so often that I am ready to write a dissertation on the topic "impact of the level of anxiety on the website building timeline." Some clients choose between pink and pink (this is not a typo) for months. They have a hard time making decisions. They can't decide between two similar fonts; they are not sure about a hero image. It is as if the business’s success depends entirely on choosing the correct shade of green. Yes, they want to make everything perfect, but it is never perfect. I understand the excitement and importance of colors and fonts, but you need to decide to move forward with the design process. If a font or color is not to their liking, we are open to reviews, allowing changes down the line. To simply put it, never prolong a project based on simple aesthetics. I genuinely believe that you need to make one crucial decision, choosing the right web designer or agency. Everything else related to the project should be left to the professional you hire.

  • Proudly Made With Wix

WIX celebrates its 16th birthday! The number of users grows past 200 million, it’s worth mentioning that its company shares have almost tripled in price in the past year. Why Wix became so popular website builder? Here are just a few main reasons Security Did you know that a website built with Wix is not hackable? Website security is essential to protect your site from DDoS attacks, malware and other online security threats. These threats attempt to gain access and use confidential information of both you and your visitors. Wix constantly upgrades its security protocols and practices to defend against these online threats. All Wix sites have enabled HTTPS, which makes Wix fully loaded with security features. Additionally, Wix offers a free dedicated SSL certificate for every website built using its web builder. In other words, Wix allows us to build a website that is safe, secure and reliable for both you and your site visitors with multi-layered website security. Website Updates and Maintenance "How easy is it to manage and maintain the site?" The question all clients ask! Needless to explain that websites are live elements that always need changes and updates. In most cases, clients have to ask their web developers to apply site changes, which can take days and cost additional money! Although some clients prefer this, some may want to make these changes themselves. With Wix, you can easily edit, add, and delete information on your site. You don't require help from a programmer every time you need to update your site! Most of our clients ask us to transfer their website from another website builder for that exact reason. They can't edit it themselves! It makes Wix an investment for your business which will save you both money and time. Additionally, the back end infrastructure will be updated automatically, making your website management process hassle-free. Online Business Management Wix has grown from a simple website builder to a powerful business management tool. It covers pretty much every aspect of online business management, both for website users and website owners. In Wix App Market you can find an app tailored for a specific industry, just a few to name: Wix Events, Wix Fit, Wix Restaurant, Wix Store, Wix Bookings, Wix Hotels. You can add it to your website in a few clicks and customise to match your website style. Besides, Wix has plenty of tools for website owners to manage and promote your business. Timeframes How long does it take to create a website? In other words, how fast you can launch your website online to start earning money. Nowadays, time is of the essence. Using Drag and Drop system we are able to speed up website building process. Though it is always depends on a client we are able to build decent websites within a few days. 24/7 tech support Isn't it just beautiful knowing that you always have that person who will listen and walk you through the troubleshooting process? It is priceless! With Wix, you have a customer care team who is there for you 24/7. Frankly speaking, Wix is not a perfect platform, and it has plenty of room for improvement. However, the real value comes from the daily improvements they make and their ability to create and introduce new updates and tools. The updates and improvements never stop with Wix :)

  • SEO Evolution of WIX

Wix has an ever-expanding range of tools for better SEO. In this article I’ll share with you some tools I regularly use for SEO settings. Custom meta tags Wix automatically sets up meta tags to meet SEO standards so your website appears correctly in search engine and social media search results. You can also customise the meta tags on every page of your website – this is what I do. Social media Make sure to check how your web pages will look when somebody shares links on social media. This can be customised in the settings on your site, or in the “Social networks” tab. SEO templates You can set the same SEO configuration for multiple pages at once. This tool could save you tonnes of time if you want to update SEO settings for your blog posts, store products, event pages, etc. Verification for Google, Pinterest, Bing and Yandex search engines With the Wix Search Engine Verification Tool, you can index your website immediately – it only takes a few seconds. URL redirect manager If you deleted or renamed a page (URL) or moved a website to another platform with a different URL structure, you need to set up redirects. With Wix, you can set up a redirect not only for one page, but also in bulk – such a time saver! Structured data Structured data provides search engines with more detailed information about a website’s content (“rich” results). To add structured data code in the advanced SEO settings, you need to generate it with an external tool (such as this Schema Markup Generator) for now. (But Wix is working on an in-house tool for this.) robots.txt file The “robots.txt” file indicates which pages should be included in search engine results. This does not guarantee that Google will crawl the page or URL, but it improves the accuracy of search engine indexing. You can edit the file via the main SEO settings in the control panel. • Page Not Found…

What is a “404” error? It occurs when visitors try to access a page that doesn’t exist on your site. If they use a broken link (usually from a renamed/deleted page), they will see a “404 error” message. A custom 404 error page is vital for redirecting lost visitors. When the 404 was created by Tim Berners-Lee, there were a lot of memes about it. “Page not found” was fodder for comics and a popular t-shirt design. But there’s no secret story behind this code. Website errors fell into the 400 range and “404” was a relatively random assignment for “not found”. If you don't set up a 404 page on your website, Wix will cover you with its default error page. It looks OK and does the job, but it’s very generic and won’t contain your logo nor reflect your brand’s visual ID. Of course, you don't want to lose a visitor because of a silly mistake. We need to make sure that they understand where they are and direct them to another page. How to make the 404 page useful for SEO Show URL(s) that the user may have been trying to reach Link the user to relevant external resources Redirect the user to pages with high traffic The most popular and useful option is to redirect the user to the site’s home page. Adding a 404 page for your Wix website To add your own customised error page, you need to have a premium plan. Click “Menus & Pages” on the left side of the Editor Click “Add Page” at the bottom of the panel Select “Error Page (404)” Hover over the page template you want to use and click “Add Page”. You’ll be able to change it later, so choose any :) 5. Customise your page to match your site. It’s easy to do – just the same as you would usually edit a page. Here are some ideas: Change the text to match the voice/tone of your site Add a site menu Add links to popular sections of your site that visitors might be looking for 6. Hit "Publish" to make the changes live. Remember: You can change the page title displayed in the browser tab in “Page Settings”, but the page URL will always contain "error404". 404 page Examples When we design a 404 page, we make it as pretty as any other page on the website. It’s important to make your visitors feel welcome and engaged, especially when they’re lost. :) Here are a few examples of pages we’ve created. • TOP 7 Web Design Trends in 2021

    1. Asymmetrical layouts Forget boring symmetrical designs. The new challenge in 2021 is to make layouts asymmetrical by playing with images, colours and element sizes. (This is my favourite – and so easy to do with Wix!). 2. Minimalist or maximalist extremes Last year we followed the maxim “less is more”, and while it’s still applicable, this year will show us more unexpected layouts in web design. I’ve already seen this trend in the latest award nominees. 3. Videos as design elements It was already trendy to use video, especially as a “hero image”. But now websites feature increasing amounts of video content: Interviews, announcements, video tours, promos and more. 4. 3D Graphic Finally we’re bored with photo-based imagery. The use of unique 3D graphics is the leading trend in 2021 and you’ll see many corporate brands turn towards cute vector characters. 5. Interactive 360 video Thanks to COVID-19, we now have a new reality where we spend more time in front of our screens. It’s started a new trend where the user becomes part of an experience. The offline world is not offline anymore – with 360° video features, we can visit museums and other spaces online. This technology will be used more and more often. 6. Mixes of styles I’ll blame COVID-19 for this, too. We got bored in isolation and people need to have fun! 🥳 Web designers are just like people ;) 7. Design with love and soul. Just as I do!
